The current government has set a target of 1.5 million new homes to be built during its 5-year term in an attempt to better match the supply of new homes to the demand.
The big housing developers such as Taylor Wimpey, David Wilson, Belway and so on chew up chunks of land, often greenbelt, for developments of over 100 houses (quite often 400+).
It doesn't have to be that way.
Smaller SME developers, like us, tend of take a more sympathetic approach to development by optimising suitable space in existing built up areas.

Who Started Purple Grove Developments?
Claire McTernan. That's me.
A 50-something, hard-working, married, mum of two 20-something daughters and one adorable Cocker Spaniel, who loves the countryside and creating homes.
I believe that people work long & hard to pay off their mortgage, and in return that should give them a home that is spacious, solid & safe.
Too many new builds these days are built to the minimum standards possible to maximise large developer profits, but those low standards result in small rooms, thin walls & poor-quality finishes.
I'm big on family. My girls are at the point they should be looking to buy their 1st homes, but due to the economic climate in the UK, that is difficult for them to do, so like so many other families, we now have 4 adults living under the one roof.
We are based in the Midlands and spend a significant amount of time in the South West, and our development projects cover both areas.
My aim is to develop more homes that specifically cater for multi-generational living specifically aimed at families with young adults who, for whatever reason, find themselves still living at home.
Traditionally when people spoke about multi-generational living, it was focused on the older generation, usually grandparents, living with their adult children.
Now that has flipped, and it's the young adult generation living with their parents instead. Modern houses were not built with that in mind.
My goal is to purposefully design multi-generational homes with bigger drives (we are a 4-car family, and that's not unusual) and studio-style accommodation built over the garage to enable independent living while still at home. Along with large bedrooms with en-suites in the main house to easily accommodate adult children and their partners, while still maintaining a homely feel.
This crusade starts with finding the land
